 Frequently  Asked Questions

(1)

How has this program been validated for effectiveness?
The Evelyn Wood Reading Dynamics program has been proven to work by more than a million satisfied users over the past 45 years. Additionally, a 2007 study by an independent research firm found that all participants increased their reading speed, with most improving their comprehension or maintaining 100% comprehension.

(2) What is the youngest age group that could benefit from this training?
Evelyn Wood Reading Dynamics has been successfully used by individuals from ages 9 to 90.  The ideal age group for young people is junior high to college. Find out more about using this program with young people — click here .

(3)

Is this only a speed reading course?
No.  In addition to increasing your speed, you will learn skills to help you understand what you read more deeply (comprehension) and remember it longer (retention).

(4) What does the advanced comprehension and retention system entail?
The system is designed to improve eye and hand movements, personalized note-taking in recall patterns, pre-reading, and note-taking skills.

(5) How does this program determine my current reading rate?
Reading rates can be easily calculated using formulas you will learn throughout the program. You can continue using these formulas after completing the program to measure your ongoing improvement.

(6)

How much time do I need to set aside to take this course and be successful?
Initially, the course will take approximately 3-5 hours (it is not required to complete the course in one sitting).  Then, continue to refresh and improve your skills through weekly practice and lifelong use. The Speed Drills CD-ROM offers quick drills you can complete in 5-10 minutes to keep your skills fresh.

(7) Will this program improve or solve reading disorders, such as dyslexia, etc.?
No. This program is designed to help readers improve speed and comprehension. It doesn't teach how to read or handle reading challenges.

(8) Does this reading approach work for online and "e" documents (e-mail, electronic newsletters, computer documents, etc.)?
The program was not originally designed with the intent of reading from a computer screen.  However, if text were reformatted into columns or the document were printed out, the techniques could be utilized.

(9) How does this program differ from other speed reading programs in which I have participated?
Evelyn Wood Reading Dynamics is the original speed-reading program!  Also, it focuses on techniques designed to maximize the purpose of reading — comprehension and retention.

(10) Who is Evelyn Wood?
Evelyn Wood pioneered the method of speed reading in which the eyes move vertically and the words are not mouthed by the reader.  She studied the reading habits and techniques of natural speed readers and developed this program to teach others these techniques.  For more information, visit About Evelyn Wood.

(11) How do you know if this program is working for you?
The program includes self-tests for speed, comprehension, and retention. Once you establish your base line, you can continue to test yourself and measure your improvement.

(12)

What are some examples of the results people have had?
Many people double or even triple their reading speed. Here's a quote from one satisfied customer!

"[Before] Evelyn Wood Reading Dynamics, I read about 350 words per minute. After completing the 3-hour DVD program, I was reading at about a thousand words per minute, tripling my reading speed!" -Judy U.

(13) How long does it take to see results?
Results can be achieved upon completion of any of the program formats...from less than 3 hours of training!

(14) Is this something I have to do every day?
No.  It is not necessary that you apply these skills to your everyday reading style, but practice and consistent use are required to maintain — and improve — your skill level.
